Many Christians throughout the world observe the season of Lent. What is Lent? Lent is the season before Easter, in which Christians make a sacrifice for 40 days. It commemorates the forty days Jesus spent fasting in the wilderness before he started his ministry (Matthew 4:1-11). The purpose of Lent is to have a time of self-denial and spiritual growth. We use this time to take an inventory of our spiritual life and see what is hindering us in our personal relationship with and service to God. The season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday. This year Lent begins on March 5, 2014.
The Christian Education Department is working with the youth on a weekly basis to "Teach true and reliable words, so that you can give sound answers to him who send you" (Proverbs 22:21 NIV). On March 29th at 10:00 am, the youth of Monumental will be participating in the North Jersey District Missionary Association's Bible Bowl. This competition includes bible trivia and sword drills (race to locating scripture). Monumental currently houses the National Bible Bowl Champion. Please come out and support our youth.
"How then shall they call on him whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach except they be sent? As it is written, how beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!" (Romans 10:14-15) According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, to evangelize is to preach the gospel. That is exactly what the Evangelistic Ministry will be doing on March 30 at 3:00 pm. Come out and hear a Word from God!
